This Product is designed with what Nyko has dubbed TempSmart technology. What this means to you is that this product is designed to kick on when needed to help move air away from your Xbox 360 and help with the cooling process. With a simple test of feeling for airflow before i attached this fan and after proved to me that this product works. The difference in airflow was a lot more dramatic than i would have expected for how sleek the Intercooler designed looked. Another great feature is that the Intercooler will be activated and deactivated when needed. It works by sensing the internal temperature of your Xbox 360 and if it is higher than the room temperature it kicks on the fan. The fan will remain on until the internal temperature returns to room temperature. This means that the fan will continue to cool your Xbox until it is cool even staying on after your xbox has been turned off. (typically seems to turn off approx 2 minutes after the Xbox 360 is turned off)
The fan runs off of its own AC power source so there is no need to block any of the Xbox’s ports and the design fits in seamlessly to the back of your Xbox without interfering with any aspects of the Xbox and it works with the Xbox when standing or laying on its side.
The Installation is a snap, literally. The fan simply fits into the existing vent holes on the back of the Xbox 360 and snaps into place, no tools needed. After it is in place simply plug it in and let it go to work. The only problem with this design is that the Infercooler is very difficult to remove since the product snaps into place. It was designed to be removable and the instructions state that to remove you only need to squeeze the top and bottom of the Intercooler and remove. They did not say that you need to have an iron grip to sqeeze hard enough to get the pegs to unhook and slide back out of the venalation hole. On the flip side I have no intention of removing this product from my Xbox 360 since it works so well. I only tried since it claims to be removable.
The only downside to this product is that it does add some noise to your Xbox 360. The hum from the Nyko Intercooler is about twice as loud as the internal fan of the Xbox. This is not very loud but is noticeable if you are playing with your volume at lower levels or during low points of noise in your games or movies.
At a retail price of $24.99 this product is a great value for the price. I would recommend this product to anyone who is forced to put their Xbox 360 in a area that is not well ventilated or to anyone who plays for long periods at a time. This product works and is worth every penny of its low retail price.
